On Orchard Road, amid luxury storefronts and restaurants with QR code menus, a small second-hand bookstore still records every sale by hand in a ledger. ANA Bookstore, one of Singapore's heritage businesses, has no website or social media and does not accept cashless payments. Neither does the 72-year-old owner have a successor, so the shop will likely be shuttered once he puts up his feet for retirement. Other heritage businesses are adapting and innovating but they say it is not easy to evolve while still staying authentic to their roots.
